Development in full swing, says Rajitha

The government has launched a large number of development programmes in every field including agriculture, post harvest and fisheries industries. Divi Neguma is the most important development programme launched by the government to provide food to the people including rural folk, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said.

Twenty five percent of funds from the Divi Neguma programme has been set aside for the fisheries industry. This will help feed children in villages. Divi Neguma has given priority for agriculture, fisheries and post harvest industries to uplift the livelihoods of these communities, he added.

The minister was addressing a ceremony to distribute ice boxes among 300 fish sellers in the Kalutara district under the third phase of the Divi Neguma development programme conducted by the Economic Development Ministry at the Kalutara district secretariat recently.

The Fisheries Ministry distributed 300 ice boxes among 290 sea fish sellers and 10 freshwater fish sellers. The minister also distributed financial assistance among 10 fresh water fish cultivators.
