Increased funds for EP housing

The Economic Development Ministry had allocated Rs 1,364.99 million under the Negenehira Navodaya programme to housing development programmes in the Eastern Province during the year 2011, a ministry report said.

This amount allocated in 2010 was Rs 216.56 million, the report said.

According to the report the Economic Development Ministry had allocated Rs 1,213.00 million towards resettlement programme in the Eastern Province during 2011.

This amount was Rs 96.77 million in 2010. The ministry had allocated Rs 1,256.57 million to construct roads and bridges during the past year while this allocation was Rs 732.91 million in 2010. For irrigation construction and renovation programme Rs 406.89 million had been allocated during the year 2011. In 2010 the ministry had spent Rs 397.28 million for this purpose.

Sectors such as livelihood Development, Education, Water Supply, Common Amenities and Agriculture development programmes received Rs 265 million, Rs 410.01 million, Rs. 279.45 million, Rs 6.00 million, Rs 353 million during the year 2011 respectively.

In 2010 the ministry had spent Rs.172.77 million, Rs 64.78 million, Rs 38.07 million, Rs 30.47 million and Rs25.16 million as such sectors respectively on these sectors.
