Gurukula in historic win over Dharmaloka
Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya beat their archrivals Dharmaloka
Vidyalaya in their 24th Big Match worked off at Premadasa Stadium,
Colombo. All the previous encounters ended in tame draws. The Chief
architect behind this victory is Old Gurukula Cricketer and captain and
their present coach Lal Senaratne. He was a member of the inaugural Big
Match team in 1987 and in 1990 he captained the team. In 2005 he took
the challenge and became the coach and with his dedication Gurukula
reached a healthy position.
During this season they played seventeen matches including the Big
match and won nine matches, drew six and lost only to two formidable
sides St. Sebastians, Moratuwa and Zahira College, Colombo.
Through sheer hard work each and every Gurukula player contributed
his share. Special mention should be made of the two all rounders.
Hashan Dumindu who scored 967 runs and grabbed 52 wickets. Hashan is the
only player of Gurukula who came closer to one thousand run mark and
their captain Roshan Anuruddha scored 571 runs and 61 wickets.
In the year 2007 under the guidance of Senaratne they became runners
up in the Division Two under 17 tournament and in 2010 they came up to
the pre-quarter finals in the division one under 15 tournament. In year
2011 their under 19 team was promoted to division one. In the year 2012
they were selected for the inter-school under 19 knock out tournament
and also selected for the Twenty/20 tournament.
The present skipper Roshan Anuruddha was selected for the Sri Lanka
under 19 pool and in the year 2010 at the Prima under 15 tournament
Hashan Dumindu became the man of the series in District Level and Roshan
Anuruddha was selected as the Man of the Series of the Provincial
In 2010 Roshan Anuruddha toured Malaysia with the under 15 team to
play in the under 15 Tri Nation tournament and won the Man of the Series
and was the Vice Captain of the tour.
