There is an increasing focus on improving the quality of public
financial management around the globe, with many countries in both the
developed and developing countries making important and impressive
achievements in strengthening public financial management and
governance.
However, the public sector is rapidly changing with an increasing
emphasis on fiscal management and discipline, prioritization of
expenditure and value for money.
Therefore there still remains much to be done where international
donors, governments, national and local institutions including
regulators and professional accountancy bodies, work together in
partnership to achieve long lasting improvements in public sector
financial management. With this in mind, ACCA together with the
Institute of Chartered Accountants held a panel discussion at the
Cinnamon Grand recently on this subject.
The eminent panel that took part in this discussion included Gillian
Fawcett, Head of Public Sector ,ACCA, Dr.Afra Sajad, Regional Head of
Education, ACCA, H.A.S.Samamaraweera, Auditor General, D.Vidanagamachchi
,Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, V.Kanagasabapathy, President of the
Public Finance Accountants in Sri Lanka and Aruna Alwis Secretary to CA
Sri Lanka.
