Focus on 'business of fashion'
Fashion weeks around the world are known to be the most glamorous
business meetings. It becomes an idealistic meeting point for business
and works hand in hand in sustaining a fashion design industry.
Sri Lanka's nascent fashion design industry will be pushed in that
direction with this year's edition of HSBC Colombo Fashion Week (CFW )
to be held at Colombo Hilton from February 24 to 26.

Over the years, CFW has been working towards strengthening the
business aspect; where young, local Sri Lankan designers can further
engage in commerce to enhance their expertise as fashion designers. The
much-anticipated line-up of 20 local fashion designers which include
both, homegrown and newcomers will showcase their latest designs over
three days and are anticipated to exceed expectations this year.
Homegrown talent such as Darshi, KT Brown, Yolanda, Fouzul Hameed,
Sonali Fernando, Ramona, and Upekha will be on the ramp again this year
alongside local brands. Newcomers Lilian, Koco and Gehan have been
selected by the HSBC CFW organizers after impressing industry experts
with their work.
For the first time CFW will work very closely with Perine Fernando
who flies down from New York. She will act as the official spokesperson
to CFW, while working with the management on mentoring and showcasing
the event.
"Every aspect of the event is being worked upon to push for commerce
to take place, so young and established Sri Lankan designers can sustain
their labels and thrive. Obviously without losing the glamour aspect, we
are using very high caliber production techniques. We have also engaged
Perine as our spokesperson in an interesting manner," says CFW president
Ajai Vir Singh. |
