Student boxer's death:

Suspects further remanded

The Maharagama Magistrate Sumith Perera yesterday further remanded the two suspects, who are alleged to have involved in the death of a student who died due to an internal haemorrhage according to the medical evidence.

Earlier the mother of the student informed Court that she suspected foul play and requested to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the death.

Senior Counsel Upali Senaratne who appeared for the suspects submitted to Court that there was no evidence to prove that this was a murder according to medical evidence before Court.

After the submissions by the Senior Counsel Upali Senaratne and the police the Magistrate ordered the two suspects to be further remanded till February 21. The mother of the student and another student of the boxing team of the same school gave evidence at the Magisterial inquiry.

Senior Attorney Upali Senaratne with Sumith Parakkrama and Dashinth Thabrew appeared for the two suspects. Attorney Sudath Wickremaratne appeared for the aggrieved party.

The case will be called on February 21, 2012.
