Kahawatte double murder:

Police seek public help

The Police Public Relations Unit seeks public support to arrest the suspects involved in the double murder in Kahawatte two weeks ago.

Police said a Rs one million reward will be given to any person who provides correct information about the suspects or persons connected to the murder.

Kawindi Chaturangani, 19, and her mother Nayana Nilmini, 52, were murdered between January 31 and February 2 at Temple Road in Kotakethana, Kahawatte.

Meanwhile, the CID, the Police Intelligence Unit and special Police teams are investigating to nab the suspects.

Eight selected groups from police stations in the Ratnapura division, two CID teams and 20 officers from the Police Intelligence Unit have been deployed to carry out investigations to nab the suspects, Ratnapura SSP L G Kularatne said at the Ratnapura District Coordinating Committee meeting on Monday. Addressing the committee to present the progress report of the double murder, he said that the Police have arrested the suspects involved in a series of incidents where 11 women were murdered since 2008.

He said that similarly, they will be able to arrest the suspects in the Kahawatte double murder soon.
