Death sentence for heroin peddler

Ussan Saibo Mohamed Jauffer of Kalpitiya the third accused in a heroin case who was found guilty of keeping 899.5 grammes of heroin for sale was sentenced to death by Puttalam High Court Judge S D Arfa Thassim on Tuesday.

The judge also forfeited the lorry used to transport the heroin. The judge who aquitted the first accused Kanagasabai Selvaratnam of all charges preferred against him and discharged him and issued an open warrant for the arrest of the second accused Abdul Salam Azwer who had failed to appear in court and directed the Anti Narcotics Bureau to forward a copy of the warrant to the Indian police.
