St Sebastian's student wins HelpAge short story writing contest

The award presentation of the All Island School Short Story Writing Competition 2011 conducted by HelpAge Sri Lanka with the support of the education sector took place at Gotami Balika Vidyalaya Auditorium, Colombo yesterday.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa who was the chief guest and HelpAge Sri Lanka officials distributed prizes and awards.

Most competitors had selected the theme 'Treating elders with honour and compassion.'

The winner in the competition's senior division was Niresh Fernando of St Sebastian's College, Moratuwa while Ayodya Bandara Perera of Bishop's College, Colombo won the second place. The winner in the junior division was Sarah Nisthar of Hillwood College, Kandy while Rosemary Ganegoda of President's College, Embilipitiya was placed second.

Former chairman and advisory consultant of HelpAge Leel Gunesekara, HelpAge chairman Tilak de Zoysa, HelpAge Youth Education Division director G C Mendis, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya Principal Soma Munasinghe, writer Sybil Wettasinghe and HelpAge executive director Nimal Alatunge also participated.
