Wetland auditing system mooted

Discussions are on to establish a wetland auditing system to record, locate and protect wetlands, said Central Environmental Authority (CEA) chairman Charitha Herath. He said that the CEA would hold discussions with all stakeholders including the Irrigation and Water Resources Management. Minister and Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister to initiate this system as a collaborative effort.

He was speaking at a media briefing at the CEA auditorium to announce Ritzbury Sponsorship of Rs two million to conduct an all island inter school quiz competition for World Wetland Day. The CEA and the Wildlife Conservation Department has organized a series of programmes to celebrate World Wetland Day which falls on February 2.

He also proposed a Wetland Crediting System to benefit individuals who work for the conservation of wetlands.
