Bodies found

The Mahawela police found a body of a male in a public well in Kawatayamuna GN division in Mahawela on Saturday.

The naked body is that of a five feet tall person and has short hair, according to police. Mahawela police are investigating.

Meanwhile, the Kirindiwela police found a body of a woman in the well of her residence in Alliyawatte, Radawana on Saturday. The Police identified the victim as H. Chandrawathi (55) who lived alone at her house.

The body is lying in the Gampaha hospital morgue for the post-mortem.


Three netted for illegal cattle transportation

The Dambulla STF took into custody three persons in Kiralagolla who were illegally transporting cattle along Dambulla – Matale main road.

The police seized 39 cows valued at Rs 1,500,000 and the lorry. The suspects were handed over to Matale police for further investigations.


Arrested with cannabis

The Udawalawa STF arrested a man who was in possession of 19 kgs of cannabis at his home in Hambegamuwa, Mahapalassa on Tuesday.

The suspect, J.W.A. Siriwardane of Kotawehera, was handed over to Hambantota police for further investigation. Police said the cannabis is valued at Rs 200,000.
