Solving Colombo woes:

Central govt support vital - Milinda

Milinda Moragoda

The support of the central government and the Western Provincial Council is necessary to solve problems of Colombo city. The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) cannot do it alone, said UPFA Colombo mayoral candidate Milinda Moragoda at the SLFP press conference at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday.

He said that a majority of the people living in Colombo are faced with a lot of difficulties.

“There are a large number of tenaments in Colombo bearing dubious names such as Korea, Sudan, Ethiopia, etc. When we visited these areas we feel how suitable these names are for these areas.”

“The scale of the city’s major problems, including housing, garbage disposal and traffic congestion is larger than that which the CMC could handle. It is necessary to find solutions for all these problems with the support of the central and provincial government and local government authorities. The government has launched housing projects to solve housing problems in the city,” said Moragoda.
