Bourse begins in red zone

Colombo bourse started yet another discouraging week where benchmark indices ended the day in the red zone.

Furthermore all sectors except for Chemicals and Pharmaceutical recorded losses during trading. ASI closed at 6,434.34, down 102.91 points (-1.57%) whereas liquid MPI dropped by 135.18 points (-2.24%) to end at 5,894.57. The market turnover stood at Rs 1.1 billion.

John Keells Holdings Plc (Rs 81.4mn) emerged as the top contributor to the turnover followed by DFCC Bank Plc (Rs 72.0mn) and Vallibel One Plc (Rs 67.2mn). Meanwhile Swarnamahal Financial Services Plc, Softlogic Holdings Plc and Nation Lanka Finance Plc displayed heavy trading. Foreign participation accounted 11.22% of the total market activity. At the end of the day foreign investors were the net buyers with a net foreign inflow of Rs 55.6mn.
