Cop copped in crooked act

A police constable attached to Karuwalagasweva Police was arrested yesterday attempting to withdraw over Rs 100,000 from a passbook of a friend attached to the same police station illegally.

When the passbook was given to the bank’s cashier, he had consulted the manager since the amount requested was over Rs 100,000. When the manager requested the suspect’s official identity, he had fled the bank, keeping the documents on the manager’s table.

The manager informed police. The police rushed to the bank and scanned the video installed at the bank premises and identified the suspect.

The suspect was arrested and was due to be produced before the Puttalam magistrate.
