Probe into outdated beverage

Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa yesterday called for an immediate probe into the sale of an outdated soft drink at a popular rest house in Sigiriya.

The minister was served a cool drink with a popular brand name which has expired seven months ago, when he got into the rest house for refreshments while participating in an inspection tour at Sigiriya with a group of journalists yesterday.

The issue was brought to the notice of the minister by a journalist. The minister immediately ordered the manager of the rest house to clear the stocks and hold a proper inquiry into it. The minister also informed Co-oporatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando about the matter. The Daily News learns that a team from the Consumer Affairs Authority had raided the rest house following the information.
