Antonians win

Despite a late fight back by the visitors St Anthony's College pulled off a 24 points (2 goals, 2 tries) to 13 (2 tries, 1 penalty) win over St Joseph's College in their schools under-20 'A' Division rugby tournament match played at Nittawela yesterday.

The Antonians opened scoring through flanker Sajjid Lahir near the posts and winger Chamara Kumara added the extra points.

A few minutes later the Josephians fought back to reduce the lead through a try by fly half Godfrey White and this went unconverted. The Josephians took over the lead soon afterwards through a 35-metre penalty fired by winger Rehan Thiyagaraja to be in front leading 8-7.

The Antonians forged ahead in the 30th minute when winger Eranga Ariyapala scored near the posts. Winger Chamara added the extra points. Five minutes before the short break skipper and No 8 Sanka Rajaguru scored a push over try which went unconverted. Midway in this half the Josephians succeeded in scoring through their prop forward Dushan Dep. This too went unconverted.

In the 30th minute of play the Antonians kept play in the Josephians territory and hooker Mohamed Ali went over for a fine try.
