Thurunu Sadaham Mangallaya on May 16

The National Youth Services Council, Tharunyata Hetak Organization
and Presidential Secretarial office have jointly organized a religious
ceremony where 2600 youth will observe Sil, at one location to mark the
2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthi.
This programme which will be implemented as a concept of
Parliamentarian and Tharunyata Hetak organization chairman Namal
Rajapaksa has been named Thurunu Sadaham Mangallaya.
The Thurunu Sadaham Mangallaya will be held with the participation of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D M Jayaratne, Youth Affairs
Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and Youth Affairs Deputy Minister Duminda
Dissanayake. Addressing a press conference at the Information
Department, National Youth Services Council Chairman Lalith Pumal Perera
said, President Mahinda Rajapaksa wants to make young individuals a
principled in keeping with the teachings of the Buddha.
After 30 years of terrorist activities, this is the right time to
develop discipline in the young generation.
This religious programme which will be conducted by Ven Kiribathgoda
Gnanananda Thera will be held at the Maharagama Youth Centre on May 16,
he said. The Mahamevna Meditation Asapuwa has taken a major part in this
programme.
One remarkable feature in relation to this programme is that Dana as
well as other refreshments are to be offered by adherents of other
religions," Perera said. Tharunyata Hetak Organization university
coordinator Ravindra Samarawicrama said, Tharunyata Hetak Organization
Chairman Namal Rajapaksa wanted to launch this programme as a meaningful
one. The Tharunyata Hetak Organization invites youth to participate in
this religious activity. Other District Organizers of the National Youth
Services Council will implement a number of Sil observing programmes at
selected locations in each District along with this major programme
during the Vesak Week.
Youth Affairs Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake will also observe
Sil in Anuradhapura with other young individuals to mark the 2600th
Sambuddhathva Jayanthi on May 17.
Bellwood Aesthetic Centre Head Karunarathna Wijewardana said the
fundamental problem of the youth is that they do not get an opportunity
to appreciate art. We have composed some songs and produced a DVD to
mark the 2600 the Sambuddhathva Jayanthi with the participation of
Bellwood students. A song has also been written by Veteran Lyrists
Karunarathna Abesekara to mark the 2500 Sambuddha Jayanthi. |
