Sambuddathva Jayanthi:

Buddha statues to be donated to Lankan embassies

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau will present Buddha statues to Sri Lankan embassies all over the world. This will be done to mark the 2600th Sambuddathva Jayanthi commemoration programme. Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau chairman Kingsley Ranawaka has begun to gather information in this regard while details from 50 Sri Lankan Foreign Embassies have already been collected.

Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau plans to place the Buddha statues at the Sri Lankan Foreign Embassies premises.

"Through this programme, the Sri Lankan Embassy premises can be created as places of worship for all Buddhists," he said.

The Buddha statues which they hope to provide will be created in the form of Samadi Mudra statues. Ranawaka has directed officials to distribute the Buddha statues to the embassies after holding rituals, customs and other offerings.

The Bureau has already sent around 10 Buddha statues to Sri Lankan Foreign Embassies.
