Increase in exports in January

Total exports from Sri Lanka recorded US $ 813.41 million in January 2011 as against US $ 471.74 million recorded in the corresponding month in 2010.

Total tea export earnings recorded US $ 114.65 million in January 2011 as against US $ 90.86 million recorded in the corresponding month in 2010, Export Development Board Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said.

Total natural rubber export earnings recorded US $ 23.22 million in January 2011 in comparison to US $ 17.69 million reported in January 2010. Total coconut export earnings in January 2011 was US $ 21.35 million compared to US $ 14.42 million recorded in the same month of the previous year.

Total textiles and garments and food, feed, beverages, tobacco export earnings for the first month in 2011 were US $ 375.55 million and US $ 26.49 million respectively.

Total fisheries products and diamonds, gems and jewellery export earnings reported US $ 18.38 million and US $ 34.47 million respectively in January 2011.

Vegetables, spices and fruits export earnings reported US $ 1.70 million, US $ 15.56 and US $ 1.47 million respectively in January 2011.

Total non metallic mineral products, and sub total engineering products exports earnings were US $ 8.69 million and US $ 31.41 million respectively in January 2011.
