Minister writes to Polls Chief:

CaFFE plot bared

Public Relations and Public Affairs Minister Dr Mervyn Silva said, information has been received that Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) organization is conspiring to undermine the UPFA victory in the Local Government polls.

The Minister has sent a letter to the Elections Commissioner in this regard.

The Minister said action has already been taken to give a wide propaganda after the LG polls to the effect that the UPFA had been engaged in malpractices and other fraudulent activities on election day. For that they have also sought the assistance of the ‘Lanka News’ website operating in their office itself, he said.

“According to information received, a representative has been appointed to each of the Local Government body area and each of them are to be paid Rs 5,000 for the two days - March 17 and 18.”

“This organization is planning to tarnish the Government through various international networks for which they are now holding discussions with several electronic media institutions and two newspapers. This mud slinging campaign has been organized under Western Provincial Councillor Shiral Laktilake and CaFFE Coordinator Rajitha Keerthi Tennekone,” the Minister said.

The letter appeals to the Elections Commissioner to act in this regard as this media conspiracy is to be launched under the pretext of election monitoring.
