Cuba decries UN's Israeli attitude

UN: Cuba denounced Wednesday the Security Council's silence regarding Israeli actions, particularly the construction of settlements in Palestinian territories and the blockade of Gaza.

The denunciation was made by Cuban permanent representative to UN Pedro Nunez Mosquera during a debate on the Middle East situation.

Nunez Mosquera said that the Council's silence on the issue of Israeli settlements in the past two years has been used by Israel to continue demolishing Palestinian houses and constructing settlements.

Cuba demands the immediate cessation of these actions, of the construction of the wall built by Israel and of the eviction of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem, he said.

The Cuban diplomat also repudiated all illegal actions of incitement, provocation and aggression by extremist settlers against holy sites and the Palestinian population.

He said that direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians held less than a month due to the Tel Aviv's decision to continue constructing settlements and break the short moratorium in that regard. United Nations, Prensa Latina
