IEMS Awards

One of the vibrant institutions on English speech and drama, IEMS holds its awards ceremony as it celebrates its 20th anniversary in serving the sphere of English education and Communication skills, tomorrow at the BMICH Colombo from 8.30 am.

IEMS (Institute for Examinations in English, Music and Speech) has branches in most of the major cities in the country including Lunugala, Minneriya, Ampara, Weliveriya, Trincomalee and Jaffna. Children of age three and half and above sit for the exam in different provinces. Children who obtained full marks in the examination held in 2009 will be presented awards during this ceremony.

IEMS examinations began offering speech examinations in 1990, since then developed and refined. Reputed for their accuracy, practicality and enjoyability, IEMS examinations offer a range of grades that allows progress at individual level. More than 30,000 candidates sit for IEMS examinations.

The chief guest of the morning session, starting 8.30 am, will be Colombo University Vice Chancellor Kshanika Hirimburegama and National Institute of Education, Director General Dr Upali Sedara, the guest of honour.

The chief guest and guest of honour of the mid day session, at 12.30 pm, will be National Education Commission Vice Chairman Dr G B Gunawardane and National Institute of Education, Faculty of Education for Leadership Development and Teacher Training Assistant Director General, WWJ Perera respectively.

The chief guest of the last session, starting 3.30 pm, will be Colombo University Institute of Human Resources Advancement Director Dr Hirimburegama and guest of honour will be Moratuwa University Head of English Department Dr Jagath Manatunga.
