Selling drugs near schools:

Twenty four arrested

Twenty four suspects were arrested by the Walana Central Police Fraud Bureau on suspicion of selling drugs near schools in Keselwatta, Wellawatta and Grandpass. The raid was carried out on a tip off by the residents.

Arrested were sent to relevant police stations for investigations.

A wanted suspect was arrested by the Avissawella police on the charge of shooting a person and causing fatal injuries to the victim. The suspect is a resident of Dehiowita. A T-56 gun with 25 ammunitions and a three wheeler used for the crime were recovered by the police. The suspect and the three wheel driver are in the police custody. The suspects are due to be produced before the Ruwanwella Magistrate today.

Two house burglars were arrested by the Koswatta police yesterday. They are residents of Kirimatiyana. After further inquiries police revealed that they have burgled two communication centres in the area and looted the belongings. Police recovered some stolen items.

Koswatta and Marawila police are investigating.

Meanwhile another suspect was arrested for driving a vehicle with forged registration number by the Western Province Intelligence Unit yesterday. After investigations police recovered another van with a forged engine number in Kandana. Western Province Intelligence Unit is investigating.
