Chief Justice
Sarath N. Silva

Two Courts complexes for Nuwara Eliya and Nawalapitiya established at Rs 440 million will be opened tomorrow by Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC.

The Nuwara Eliya Courts Complex which is a four storied building will consist of a High Court, District Court and a Labour Tribunal. Three storied Nawalapitiya Courts Complex will consist of a District Court and a Labour Tribunal.

Justice and Judicial Reforms Ministry Senior Assistant Secretary W. A. Senarathne said the Nuwara Eliya Courts Complex was built at Rs. 240 million while Rs 200 million was spent on the Nawalapitiya Courts Complex.

He said Nuwara Eliya District did not have a High Court and people from Nuwara Eliya as well as remote areas like Mathurata and Hanguranketha had to come to the Kandy High Court if they were indicted or they filed any application before the High Court.

The Magistrate’s Court of Nawalapitiya is situated in a small building and the Labour Tribunal was held at a private residence. The establishment of the new Courts Complex with a District Court would help litigants as well as Judicial Officers and the staff.

Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Justice and Judicial Reforms Deputy Minister V. Puthrasingamony and many several other ministers are scheduled to participate on the invitation of Justice and Judicial Reforms Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda.
