| News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Election violence UNP-PA clash in Tambuttegama by Ananda Pathiraja and Walter Dayaratne Two anti-riot squads from the Anuradhapura Headquarters Police were rushed to Tambuttegama on Monday by DIG (NCP) Ananda Jayasekera to subdue a clash between UNP and PA supporters and restore peace in the area. Police said Tambuttegama town was like a mini battlefield with the two parties firing in the air and assaulting each other until the riot squads arrived and restored calm. Most traders put up shutters fearing damage to their establishments. Eleven UNP supporters have been hospitalised with injuries while several PA supporters also reported injured in the clash. |
