Every vote cast for UNP will strengthen Prabhakaran - Maithripala Sirisena

Every vote cast for the UNP will strengthen Prabhakaran, General Secretary of the SLFP and Mahaweli Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.

" Several Tamil parties who have close ties with the LTTE are contesting this election to ensure the victory of the UNP since Prabhakaran will be able to obtain his Eelaam state under a UNP regime. Therefore every vote cast for the PA will weaken the Prabhakaran and his terrorists supporters." the Minster added.

Addressing party supporters in the Mahaweli C system in Siripura and Allewewa, Minister Sirisena said whichever party comes to power, it is the President who has powers to appoint the Cabinet and summon Parliament. " People of this country have given a mandate for her to remain in power for another five years. This is fully endorsed by the Constitution drafted by former President J.R. Jayawardene."

Minster Sirisena said, today SLFP is more clean as power-hungry rouges had left the party." I have my own set of principles and as a result, today I have been bestowed the privilege of becoming the SLFP's General Secretary."

At the last year election, we lost Polonnaruwa electorate by 218 votes. We have now found out causes for that defeat. It has been revealed that some security personnel had threatened PA supporters by taking money from some parachuters to the district.

During the 17 year UNP regime, no family in the Dimbulagala district were provided Janasaviya benefits. But, PA Government provided Samurdhi benefits for 12,000 families affected by terrorist activities and the Government spends nearly Rs 8 billion for this purpose.

He further said that UNP is such an ungrateful party, it does not respect the grand-son of party's founder D.S. Senanayake. They have now chased away Rukman Senanayake from the Polonnaruwa district." UNP which lost 11 elections in line attempted to gain control of Parliament through an undemocratic way."
