JVP Propaganda Secretary and Parliamentary Group Leader Wimal Weerawansa in a statement says that certain political forces and officials are trying to hamper efforts to introduce legislation to recover huge bank loans obtained by corrupt businessmen. He said that a major opposition party was responsible for masking fraudulent businessmen who had defaulted large amounts of money and that was the reason for the No Confidence Motion being forwarded against the PA Government, particularly at a time when the JVP was assisting the Government to bring the offenders to book. MP Weerawansa stated that certain MPs of this political party have described the proposed legislation as immoral, because they want to protect the offenders who flourished during the rule of these politicians. He said that there was a conspiracy hatched by this political party to sling mud at the JVP-PA Memorandum of Understanding, whilst doing their utmost to hinder the attempts made by the JVP and the PA to prevent corrupt businessmen from squandering State money at their own whims and fancies. MP Wimal Weerawansa states that the JVP Parliamentary Group will commit themselves to bring new legislation in Parliament to put a stumbling block to the pillage of large amounts of State funds in future despite the severe obstacles posed by these politicians and officials acting with vested interests. |
