Tribute to Sivaji Ganeshan When
he left us
I had no feelings, whatsoever,
As if all feelings had freezed
Leaving behind just an emptiness
a void, sans light, sans warmth
Left behind to be filled
by yet another immortal character portrayal,
yearning to come to life.
I had no sorrow
Only a tear clinging on
to the brink of my eye.
* * *
I see a million faces
nay, a billion they could be
Tearful eyes yet with hopeful smiles
It is no death they seem to say
It's only yet another transformation
No longer a mere mortal
It's God this time
The role he wasn't given - that extra time to play.

Great actors never die they say
They fade away and fade in again
from one image into another,
in heavenly time.
The common cynic would say
Staring on with smoldering envy
Speaking, but only in his still-born vocabulary
"He's ageing, he's dying."
while the Visionary and the Poet
See him being recalled to life.

Sir Arthur Beerbohm Tree
Sir John Gilgud by his side
Sir Laurence with open arms and heart
Herald his arrival from the shores beyond
"Welcome fellow knight,
Chevalier Shivaji Ganeshan
Come with us - Come stay the night,
for heaven's sake
'twas worth the wait
for the few of us
"Welcome Sir Shivaji Ganeshan
To where you truly belong.
