Attacks a "terrible blow" to world tourism:

PARIS, Tuesday (AFP)

The terrorist attacks in the United States have struck "a terrible blow" at tourism but the sector will recover quickly, the World Tourism Organisation said in a statement received here on Tuesday.

The sector would demonstrate its capacity to recover, said the organisation, which is based in Madrid and groups 139 states. But it acknowledged that the impact of the attacks was difficult to judge.

The organisation was continuing with preparations for its general assembly, held every two years, which is to open in Seoul on Sunday.

The secretary general, Francesco Frangialli, said that as an international organisation, it had to demonstrate that it could look ahead in times of adversity.
