The Sri Lanka Freedom Party saw the light of day on September 2, 1951 when Mr. S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike became its head. He was proposed and seconded by Al Haj Sri Nissanka Badi Uddin Mahamud at a meeting held in the Colombo Municipal Council Auditorium.
